Sports Roundup: Skippers, Royals Ease Into Schedule

Minnetonka and Hopkins athletic programs both had light slates on first day of school.

Minnetonka and Hopkins athletic teams eased into their post-Labor Day schedules on Tuesday as only a small sampling of Skippers and Royals squads returned to competition on the first day of school.

Minnetonka Girls Soccer

Maggie Crist and Abbie Kuzara both scored as the Minnetonka girls soccer team defeated visiting Shakopee, 2-1, on Tuesday night to improve to 4-0.

The Skippers host Minneapolis Southwest on Wednesday night in their lone remaining game of the week.

Minnetonka Boys Soccer

The Minnetonka boys soccer team fell to 1-3 on the season after a 1-0 loss to visiting Shakopee on Tuesday night.

Since winning their season opener, the Skippers have dropped three straight and have scored just two goals overall this autumn.

Minnetonka looks to right the ship as it opens the Lake Conference season at Wayzata at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

Minnetonka vs. Hopkins Girls Tennis

Minnetonka rudely welcomed Hopkins to the Lake Conference girls tennis schedule by means of a 7-0 decision on Tuesday. 

Statistics and a win/loss record for Minnetonka were not available. The defeat dropped the Royals to 4-2 in dual matches this season as the team prepares to host Minneapolis Southwest at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Hopkins Girls Soccer

A 0-0 tie at No. 3-ranked Edina got the Lake Conference schedule started for the Hopkins girls soccer team on Tuesday.

The deadlock gave the Royals a 2-1-1 record. It was the second of three consecutive games for the squad against ranked teams, the final contest of the stretch comes on Thursday as Hopkins hosts No. 7 Eden Prairie at 5 p.m.

Jillaine Young leads the Royals with two goals on the season, with Cody Webster, Corbin Boyd, Paris Ebersviller and Leah Chase also netting goals so far this autumn.

Hopkins Boys Soccer

The Hopkins boys soccer team dropped to 1-3 on the season with a 4-0 loss at No. 2 Edina on Tuesday in its Lake Conference opener.

Since winning its first game of the year, 1-0, at Chaska on Aug. 25, the Royals have yet to score a goal in any of their losses since. 

Hopkins returns home to take on No. 8 Eden Prairie at 7 p.m. Thursday.
