Sports Roundup: Skippers, Royals Compete Under Sunny Skies

Continued ideal weather conditions continue to greet local athletic teams for their competitions.

After taking Wednesday off, the Minnetonka and Hopkins athletic teams were back at it on a brilliant Thursday afternoon and evening.

Minnetonka Cross-Country

The Minnetonka cross-country teams competed at the Bauman/Rovn Invitational at Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista, with the boys placing third and the girls eighth.

Kyle Anderson led the Skippers boys with a seventh-place run of 16 minutes, 33.2 seconds; Lucille Hoelscher paced the girls with a 25th-place result of 15:57.1.

Minnetonka Boys Soccer

A 4-0 loss at Wayzata in its Lake Conference opener dropped the Minnetonka boys soccer team to 1-4 on the season.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Skippers play at Coon Rapids at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Minnetonka Girls Swimming and Diving

Edina held off the Minnetonka girls swimming and diving team, 94.5-91.5. Individual statistics were not made available.

Hopkins Girls Soccer

The Hopkins girls soccer team claimed its second-straight tie against a top-10 opponent with a 1-1 deadlock against visiting Eden Prairie.

Individual statistics were not made available. The 2-1-2 Royals play at Robbinsdale Cooper on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Hopkins Boys Soccer

Like the girls, the Hopkins boys soccer team knotted up Eden Prairie by a 1-1 score as Christian Abundis claimed the Royals' goal, assisted by Rolando Barclay.

Goalkeeper Daniel Rosario-Torres made eight saves to help the Royals improve to 1-3-1 on the year. Hopkins plays at Cooper at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Hopkins Cross-Country

The Hopkins cross-country teams competed at the Bauman/Rovn Invitational at Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista, with the girls placing fifth and the boys sixth.

John Klecker led the Royals boys with a sixth-place finish in a time of 16:32.9, with Mary Klecker pacing the girls with a 16th-place run in 15:43.5.

Hopkins Girls Tennis

The Hopkins girls tennis team defeated Minneapolis Southwest by a 6-1 score. Individual statistics were not made available. 

Hopkins Girls Swimming and Diving

Wayzata defeated the Hopkins girls swimming and diving team by a 96-82 score. Complete individual statistics were not available.
