Minnetonka Boys Take First at Section 6AA Swimming and Diving Meet

Besides their first place finish, Minnetonka will be sending eight swimmers to the individual state meet this week.

Boys Swim/Dive: Minnetonka Wins Section 6AA Title

The Minnetonka boys swimming and diving team took its first step towards ending Edina's state-championship dominance by topping the Hornets for the Section 6AA title by scoring 512 points at the Art Downey Aquatics Center on Saturday.

Eden Prairie finished second with 465 points, with the Hornets in third with 429 points.

The Skippers did not claim a single sectional individual victory, yet claimed several second-, third- and fourth-place finishes to surge to the overall championship and qualify a number of swimmers for the state meet this coming week.

Moving on to state individually are: Zach Stettner (third place, 200-yard freestyle; second 500-yard freestyle), Eric Sirjord (fifth, 200 free; third 500 free), Austin Sama (second, 200-yard individual medley, third, 100 breast), Kendall Dunn (third, 200 IM; second, 100-yard breaststroke), Kurt Youngdahl (fourth, 50-yard freestyle; second, 100-yard freestyle), Noah Busch (fourth, 100 free; second 100-yard backstroke), John Seylar (fourth, 500 free).

Minnetonka will also compete at state in all three relay events. The 200-yard medley relay team of Busch, Dunn, Youngdahl and Sama placed third; the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Youngdahl, Sama, Stettner and Dane Oberman took third; the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Youngdahl, Sirjord, Stettner and Busch placed second.

The Class AA State Boys Swimming and Diving Meet runs from March 3-5 at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
