Skipper Swimmers Earn Sections Title

The Minnetonka High School's girls swim and dive team blew away the competition this weekend.

Minnetonka High School displayed a powerhouse of talent at the 6AA section meet as they earned the title of Section Champions.  

After Thursday’s swimming preliminaries, the Skippers had qualified all 35 swims into the final rounds of the championship, with 28 swims in the top 8 and 7 consolation heat swims. 

Three new varsity team records were set: 200 IM Relay (1:48.04), by Liz (E.) Kane, Mackenzie Smith, Cecelia Ostergren, and Tru Walor; Carolyn Kane in the 50 Freestyle (23.58, setting a meet record as well as team record), and Amelia Schilling in the 500 Freestyle (4:53.96, smashing her own record as well as the meet and pool records).

On Friday, the divers continued to deliver one of the best Skipper performances in the team’s history as all four divers placed in the top 8. 

On Saturday, Skipper swimmers continued to excel against some tough competitors, breaking their records set Thursday night and adding a new pool/meet record in the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays:  200 IM relay (1:47.15—Schilling, Anna Justinak, Sophie Levy, and E. Kane); 50 Freestyle (23.47—C. Kane), 500 Freestyle (4:53.49—Schilling); 200 Freestyle relay (1:35.41—C. Kane, Levy, Abby Saddler, and Isabel Wyer); and 400 Freestyle relay (3:28.00—C. Kane, E. Kane, Schilling, Wyer).

Additionally, the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays and Carolyn Kane’s 50 Free qualified as Automatic All American times. The times by Schilling in the 200 and 500 Freestyle, Wyer in the 200 Freestyle, and by the 200 Medley relay team also qualified for All-American consideration.

Individual Results:

200 freestyle: Schilling (1st), Wyer (2nd), Delaney Ambrosen (6th), Alex Braiedy (13th)

200 individual medley: Levy (6th), Anna Justinak (8th), Martha Haas (10th), Elizabeth Remer (11th) 

50 freestyle: C,Kane (1st), E. Kane (3rd), Abby Saddler (5th), Kate Busch (7th)

1 meter diving: Morgan Engel 2nd, Annika Clinton 3rd, Hannah Gosen 4th, and Mackenna Potter 6th. 

100 butterfly: Alexa Easley (3rd), Ostergren (7th), Levy (8th), Lucy Rowland (11th)

100 freestyle: Wyer (2nd), C. Kane (3rd), Saddler (4th), Walor (7th)

500 freestyle: Schilling (1st), Ambrosen (5th), Busch (10th), Braiedy (13th)

100 backstroke: E. Kane (5th), Remer (6th), Claire Sebald (7th), Walor (8th)

100 breaststroke: Justinak (5th),  Smith (6th), Haas (7th), Lizzie Kohn (11th)

Final scores:  Minnetonka 569.5, Eden Prairie 437.5, Edina 364, Chanhassen 275, Hopkins 169, Minneapolis Southwest 123, Shakopee 97, Minneapolis South 68.
