Royals Swimmers Finish Fourth at Maroon and Gold Invite

The team had a number of first-place individual finishes.

Hopkins High School swimmers put on a strong performance at Saturday’s Maroon and Gold Invite.

The Royals finished fourth of 12 teams in the Maroon Division of the University of Minnesota event.

Kate Glover and Rae Bullinger led the way for the team. Glover took first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.90) and 500-yard freestyle (5:20.64) and was part of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:54.34) and 400-yard freestyle relay teams (3:39.47).

Bullinger was also on the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:54.34) and 400-yard freestyle relay teams. In addition, she took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.44). Bullinger also finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley relay (2:13.95).

In addition to Glover and Bullinger, Addie Thelen and Molly Meland were also on the 200-yard medley relay team. Both Thelen and Meland also posted strong individual performances. Thelen placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (26.45). Meland finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.10).

The 400-yard freestyle relay team was made up of Bullinger, Glover, Meland and Kate Segar.

Saturday’s meet follows an even faster swim from the 200-yard medley relay team. Glover, Bullinger, Meland and Kate Segar took second at the Aug. 31 Eau Claire Relay Invite with a time of 1:53.4. Divers also stood out with third- and fourth-place finishes.
