Postseason Marches On For Skippers

Minnetonka baseball, softball booted from their sectional playoff brackets.

The postseason marched on for the Minnetonka lacrosse teams, while the Skippers baseball and softball squads saw their spring campaigns coming to a close last week.

Girls Lacrosse: Skippers 19, Chaska/Chanhassen 7

The Minnetonka girls lacrosse team advanced to the Section 6 semifinals with a 19-7 defeat of Chaska/Chanhassen in the quarterfinal round on May 26.

Holly Korn and Hilary Duda both scored four goals apiece, while Abbey Brodeur and Ava McFarlane each chipped in three goals in the victory.

The Skippers improved to 12-3 on the season and host Holy Family Catholic with a berth in the sectional final on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Boys Lacrosse: Skippers 17, Champlin Park 4

A 17-4 quarterfinal win over Champlin Park in Section 6 play advanced the Minnetonka boys lacrosse team into the sectional semifinals and improved the squad to 11-3 on the year.

Individual statistics from the game were not made available. The Skippers host Maple Grove at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Boys Tennis: Richards Advances To Sectional Final Four

Minnetonka's Joey Richards advanced to the Final Four of the Section 2AA Individual Tournament and competes for a state berth on Tuesday at Gustavus Adolphus College.

Richards defeated Orono's Will Fraser (6-3, 6-2) in the first round and Eden Prairie's Salam Bachour (6-2, 6-2) in the second round to earn his spot in the semifinals.

Baseball: Skippers Upset By Chanhassen In Sectional Opener

The second-seeded Minnetonka baseball team was ousted by No. 7 seed Chanhassen, 9-5, in the Skippers' Section 2AAA Tournament opener on May 28.

Individual statistics from the game were not made available. Andrew Weber led the team with a .429 batting average this season, with Alex Twenge's 5-2 record, 3.06 earned run average and 45 strikeouts pacing the squad's pitching staff.

Ranked as high as No. 2 in Class AAA earlier this season, the Skippers entered sectional play ranked seventh in the state.

The loss concluded Minnetonka's season with a 13-7 record after the Skippers lost six of their last seven games this spring.

Softball: Skippers Season Comes To An End

The Minnetonka softball team saw its season come to a close with an 11-1 loss to top-seeded Shakopee in the second round of the Section 2AAA playoffs on May 26.

The eighth-seeded Skippers had bested No. 9 seed Waconia, 4-3, in eight innings earlier in the day. 

Individual statistics were not made available. Minnetonka closed the year with a 9-10 record.
