Playoff Time For Skippers Lacrosse, Softball

Minnetonka baseball wraps regular season on Tuesday.

The postseason begins in earnest for Minnetonka teams this week as the Skippers lacrosse and softball teams begin their playoff runs, with baseball not far behind.

Softball: Skippers Open 2AAA Playoffs Versus Waconia

Following a 9-11 regular season, the Minnetonka softball team earned a No. 8 seed for the Section 2AAA Tournament and are scheduled to open the playoffs against ninth-seeded Waconia at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Caswell Park in North Mankato.

If the Skippers defeat Waconia, they would play top seed Shakopee immediately in the sectional quarterfinals.

After closing out the regular season with a 10-3 overall record and claiming a Lake Conference co-championship with a 7-1 circuit mark, the Minnetonka boys lacrosse team earned a No. 2 seed for the Section 6 playoffs. 

The Skippers were seeded behind only Lake co-champion Eden Prairie—the teams split their regular-season matchups, with the Eagles winning one more regular-season game.

Minnetonka will host either No. 7 Champlin Park or No. 10 Park Center on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Girls Lacrosse: Skippers Open Playoffs Against St. Cloud Tech

The Minnetonka girls lacrosse team will open the Section 6 playoffs at home as the No. 2 seed against No. 15 St. Cloud Tech on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

With a win on Tuesday, the Skippers will host either No. 7 Chaska or No. 10 Mound Westonka on Thursday night.

Minnetonka finished the regular season with a 10-3 overall record and took second in the Lake standings with a 5-3 circuit mark.

Baseball: Edina 6, Minnetonka 5

The Minnetonka baseball team fell into third place in the Lake standings with a 6-5 loss in nine innings at Edina on Monday. 

Individual statistics were not available. The Skippers have a chance to pull back into a second-place conference tie with Edina with a win over visiting Hopkins on Tuesday.

Minnetonka, 13-5 overall and 6-5 in the Lake after Monday, are scheduled to close out the regular season with a split doubleheader against the Royals and Chaska on Tuesday with start times scheduled for 3:30 and 6:30 p.m., respectively. 

The sectional tournament is slated to begin on Saturday against a yet-to-be determined opponent.

Boys Tennis: Minnetonka 7, Shakopee 0

The Minnetonka boys tennis team advanced to the Section 2AA semifinals with a 7-0 defeat of Shakopee on May 19.

Individual results were not available. The Skippers are scheduled to play Hutchinson at Gustavus College on Tuesday in the sectional semifinals.
