Minnetonka's Richards, Tebon Reach Tennis Consolation Semis
The Skippers duo will each compete in the Class AA singles consolation semifinals on Friday.
A pair of Minnetonka boys tennis players remain alive in the Class AA state consolation bracket after Thursday’s competition at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.
Senior Michael Tebon and freshman Joey Richards each lost their first-round matches in the state singles tournament, but each rebounded for consolation quarterfinal wins and will compete in the consolation semifinals at 8 a.m. on Friday.
Tebon opened up the state tournament with a 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 4-6 defeat against Owatonna’s Eric Zishka, then rebounded to defeat Highland Park’s Maalik Konop-Defreitas 6-4, 6-1. he will face Wayzata’s Dustin Britton on Friday in a matchup of Lake Conference rivals.

Richards fell to Section 6AA champion Ryan Erickson of Hopkins, 0-6, 6-1, 1-6 in the first round, then bounced back to beat Princeton’s Isaiah Mayerchak 6-1, 6-4 in the consolation bracket. He will face Apple Valley’s Matt Bettes at 8 a.m. on Friday.
