Minnetonka Tennis Takes Second at State

Wayzata beat the Minnetonka High School boys tennis team 7-0 on Wednesday to take the Class AA championship.

Minnetonka (seeded No. 3) beat No. 2 seed Elk River High School 4-3 on Wednesday, June 5 in the state semifinal round.  

They moved onto the Class AA state final on Wednesday at 4 p.m. to play Wayzata (No. 1), who beat Maple Grove in the semifinal.

Minnetonka beat Bloomington Jefferson 4-3 in the first round of state play on Tuesday, June 4.

The team clinched its first section title since 2007 when they defeated Shakopee 7-0 to win the Section 2AAA finals. 

Minnetonka High School junior Joey Richards is on his third straight trip to the Class AA Individual State Tennis Meet. 

Richards defeated Ryan Meger from Mahtomedi in the first round of state tournament singles action and Zach Ekstein from Eagan in the second round on Thursday.

He plays No. 1 ranked Maxwell Olson from Edina on Friday, June 7 at 8 a.m.
