Minnetonka Tennis Players Earn 4th-Place Finishes at State Tourney

The Skippers did well in both the singles and doubles portion of the tournament.

Minnetonka tennis players earned a pair of fourth-place finishes last week in the Class AA state tournament.

Senior Brianna Smith and sophomore Theresa Tebon placed fourth in the doubles portion of the tournament. The defeated Coon Rapids’ Emily Bauer and Heidi Hannula 6-0, 6-2 Thursday morning and then beat Forest Lake’s Taylor Shortly and Chase Shortly 6-2, 7-6 later that day.

Rochester Mayo’s Kylie Boyer and Kate Rosenow knocked them out of the main brackets during a Friday match. Then playing for third place that same day, Smith and Tebon lost to Edina’s Kelly Reger and Sophia Reddy.

In the single’s tournament, third-ranked Isabella Lambert defeated Lakeville North’s Lori Ahuja 6-0, 6-0 Thursday morning. The eighth grader then beat St. Cloud Tech’s Taylor Tarrolly 6-2, 6-2 later that day.

On Friday, Lambert lost to No. 2 seed Caitlyn Merzbacher, of Edina, in a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 series. She then fell to Eastview’s Jordan Kopfer 6-2, 7-5.
