Minnetonka Snaps Losing Streak, Tops Duluth East 42-7

The Skippers scored all 42 points in the first half in routing the Greyhounds

The Minnetonka football team used a big first half to take control and never looked back in a 42-7 win over Duluth East on Friday in Minnetonka.

The Skippers bounced back from two straight losses to Wayzata and Eden Prairie by scoring 28 first quarter points and 14 more in the second to take a 42-0 lead heading into halftime.

Without starting quarterback Scott Benedict, Minnetonka’s offense relied on its running game. It didn’t disappoint. DeCeon Schumann scored two rushing touchdowns, and Malcom Moore and Andre Eubanks added one each to take a 28-0 lead.

Joe Martinson connected with Moore for a 17-yard touchdown pass to make it 35-0, and James McFarlin returned an interception 69 yards in the second quarter to make it a 42-0 game.

The Greyhounds (3-5) scored in the fourth on a touchdown pass from Alex Toscano to Eric Rengo, but it was too late. Minnetonka (5-2, 1-2 Lake Conference) used another strong performance from its defense, which has recorded three shutouts this year, to get the win.
