Minnetonka Players to ‘Tackle Cancer’ at Homecoming Game

The Skipper will be raising money at the game to benefit the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund.

Minnetonka football players won’t just be trying to beat the Royals at their homecoming game Friday; they’ll be working to defeat cancer.

The Skippers will be trying to raise $10,000 at the game as part of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association’sTackle Cancer” effort. Donations can be made at the gate and during halftime. All money will benefit the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund.

Last year, Minnesota high school football programs raised more than $120,000 through Tackle Cancer initiatives. This year, they aim to raise $200,000.

Minnetonka’s homecoming game takes place at 7 p.m. Friday. In addition, Gophers fans can combat the disease at the Tackle Cancer game the University of Minnesota is playing when it takes on San Jose State at 11 a.m. the following day.
