Minnetonka Not Done Yet

Skippers girls hockey team tops Blake, 5-2, on Saturday; still one game left on regular-season schedule.

While most girls hockey teams around the state wrapped up their regular seasons on Saturday, Minnetonka's 5-2 defeat of Blake was only the squad's second-to-last pre-playoff contest.

The Skippers, who clinched the Lake Conference championship with a 7-0-1 circuit record after a 3-2 defeat of Hopkins on Thursday, took on Blake on Saturday in the first of two non-conference matchups that Minnetonka will conclude its regular season schedule with.

Minnetonka improved to 22-1-1 overall with a 5-2 defeat of Blake at the Pagel Ice Center after firing 39 shots on one of the best goaltenders in Class A, Chloe Billadeau.

The Skippers' highly-regarded starting netminder, Julie Friend, took the day off as reserve goalie Sydney Rossman made 14 saves for her sixth win of the season.

Minnetonka defender Rachel Ramsey joined forwards Maggie Bazany and Kira Von Steinbergs with goals over the first two periods as the hosts held a 3-0 lead into the final frame.

Blake made the game interesting with two goals in 31 seconds midway through the third period, yet back-to-back scored from forwards Amy Peterson and Carolyn Draayer at 10:07 and 11:08, respectively, propelled the Skippers to the victory.

Minnetonka takes on Class A's Breck on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in its final contest before the Section 6AA playoffs begin on Saturday night at the Parade Ice Garden in downtown Minneapolis.
