Minnetonka Girls Hockey Wins In Overtime Yet Again

Skippers top Benilde-St. Margaret's, 2-1, for second OT win in eight days.

Minnetonka forward Amy Petersen scored the game winning goal at 2:23 of overtime as the Skippers girls hockey team defeated host Benilde-St. Margaret's, 2-1, on Saturday night at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

It was Minnetonka's second overtime victory in the past eight days and improves the team's record to 10-1 on the season as the Skippers are now off until after the holiday break.

Forward Paige Baldwin gave Minnetonka the first lead of the game with a goal just 25 seconds into the second period before the Red Knights levelled the count at 1-1 with a third-period tally to send the game into the extra session, where Petersen ended matters in favor of the visitors.

Girls Basketball: Skippers 58, Robbinsdale Armstrong 32

The Minnetonka girls basketball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 58-32 home victory against Robbinsdale Armsrtong.

Skippers forward Katy Winge led all scorers with 16 points, while forward Cassidy Smith contributed 15 points to her team's winning effort.

Minnetonka hosts Benilde-St. Margaret's at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

Wrestling: Skippers third at Charley Turner Duals

The Minnetonka wrestling team took third place at the Charley Turner Duals at Richfield High School, going 2-1 on the day in the meet hosted by the Richfield/Edina Rampage.

The Skippers defeated the hosts, 60-24, in the opening round before falling, 40-22, in the second round. Minnetonka finished off the afternoon in good form, however, with a 45-33 victory against Glencoe-Silver Lake in the third-place match.

It was the last competition of 2010 for the Minnetonka matmen, who are next in action on Jan. 8, 2011 at Brooklyn Center.

Results were not available for the Minnetonka boys basketball team's Saturday game at Robbinsdale Armsrong or the Skippers gymnastics team's meet in Apple Valley.
