Hopkins Swimmers Test Themselves at Time Trials

Hopkins High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team was hard at work Wednesday as the swimmers did time trials to help coaches determine their place on the team.

Both Head Coach Kristen Steenvoorden and Assistant Coach Lauren Greenberg are new to the team, and both were University of Minnesota swimmers. The team also has a large number of seventh and eighth graders trying out.

But the coaches have set their sites high. Steenvoorden is aiming for four state qualifiers, up from last year’s two, and to qualify Hopkins relay teams.

Said Greenberg: “The team looks great right now. We have a lot of girls really excited for the season.”

The season begins Aug. 31 with the Eau Claire Memorial Invitational. Check back later in the week for an in-depth preview.
