Hopkins, Minnetonka Send Runners to State

Three Royals runners and two Skippers runners will be racing for the state cross country championship.

A handful of Hopkins and Minnetonka runners will be racing for the state cross country championship following strong performances Wednesday during the Section 6AA championship at Gale Woods Farm.

Minnetonka placed third in the girls’ race. The team missed qualifying for state by just six points. Sophomore Lucy Hoelscher qualified for state with a sixth-place finish and a time of 14:41.1 in the four-kilometer race.

Hopkins was fifth in team competition. Ninth grader Elizabeth Klecker qualified for state with a 15th-place finish and a time of 15:14.5.

In the boys’ race, Hopkins placed third—scoring 112 points to runner-up Edina’s 53. However, two Royals runners qualified for the state race individually. Junior Joe Klecker;s time of 16:11.7 in the five-kilometer race put him at eighth place. Sophomore Jack Henschel placed 15th with a time of 16:22.4.

Minnetonka was seventh in the race with 196 points. Senior Scott Kvidera qualified with a 16:22.7, 17th-place finish.
