Hopkins’ Andre McDonald Returning to the U This Fall

The wide receiver was hospitalized with a heart problem in his freshman year.

The Star Tribune’s Sid Hartman reported last week that former Hopkins standout Andre McDonald will be back with the Gophers this year.

McDonald’s freshman year at the U got off to a rocky start when he was hospitalized in September with a heart problem. He missed the Meineke Car Care Bowl and spring practice but will start summer school with other members of the team July 9.

McDonald was the top-ranked prospect in Minnesota during his senior year. He was one of two wide receivers in the state named to the AP All-State First Team and played in the prestigious Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl—an event for many of the top high school gridiron standouts.
