Minnetonka Skates Past Edina In Lake Conference Showdown

Minnetonka's Bowman scores two goals, and junior goalie Rossman shuts down the Hornets 3-0 in key rivalry girls hockey game on Saturday.

Laura Bowman scored two second-period goals– both off assists from line mate Amy Petersen– and goalie Sydney Rossman recorded a shutout to lead the fourth-ranked Minnetonka Skippers to a 3-0 win over No. 6 Edina Saturday at the .

With the win, Minnetonka improved to 17-4-1 and a leading 5-1-1 in the Lake Conference.

Edina fell to 15-4-6 and suffered its first league loss of the season, now 4-1-3 in Lake Conference play.

Rossman said it was the most fun game she's played in all year, on youth night and at home.

"I think we had more motivation to play this game," she said. "We tied them last time at their rink. It's a nice game to win."

Rossman stopped all 24 shots fired at her by the Hornets.

"It was a variety of factors," said Minnetonka head coach Eric Johnson. "Our goalie played really well and made some key stops when we needed her to and that creates moemtum for us as well."

Minnetonka put in three goals in a power-packed six minute span in the second period. Bowman scored at the 10:22 mark and then again at 16:25.

Sandwiched in between was a goal by Holly Korn, unassisted for the Skippers. Diana Draayer and Sidney Morin recorded assists along with Petersen on Bowman's two goals.

"It was a great game for our girls," said Johnson. "I was really happy with our team's efforts against a good Edina team. Our girls stepped up and played a great game."

Minnetonka outshot the Hornets 29-24, including a 12-8 edge in the decisive second period.

It was a nice bounce-back effort for the Skippers, who dropped a 3-1 decision on Tuesday.

"I think we were just better prepared," said Minnetonka senior Hadley Cookson. "We had a better energy for the game, definitely. Edina is always a great competitor to play against. We get pumped up for them."

Edina senior goalie Maddie Dahl had 26 saves.

Minnetonka hosts Eden Prairie (10-10-4) Thursday, starting at 7 p.m.

Edina wraps up the regular season with a home game against Class 1A leader Breck (19-1-1) at 4 p.m. Friday.
