Bailey 56th At Nordic State Meet, Skippers Lose At Wayzata

Minnetonka senior closes out high school ski career at Giants Ridge; boys hockey team falls to third in Lake Conference.

Minnetonka's Megan Bailey closed out her high school Nordic ski career at the state meet on Thursday, just hours before the Skippers boys hockey team took a tough loss in Lake Conference play at Wayzata.

Nordic Ski: Bailey 56th At State

Skippers captain Megan Bailey wrapped up her senior year as the lone Minnetonka representative at the state Nordic championships and finished 56th in the pursuit standings with a total time of 36 minutes, 33.9 seconds.

Bailey skied a time of 17:01 in the freestyle competition, then followed up with a 19:32.9 in the classical race to earn her final placement.

Boys Hockey: Wayzata 4, Minnetonka 2

The Minnetonka boys hockey team fell to 15-7-2 overall and 4-3-1 in the Lake Conference with a 4-2 loss versus Wayzata at the Plymouth Ice Center.

Forward Michael Helmer gave the Skippers a 1-0 lead in the first period, yet a three-score second frame for the Trojans gave the hosts an advantage they would not relinquish.

Defenseman Jimmy Schuldt pulled Minnetonka to within 3-2 midway through the final period, but a final Wayzata tally late in the interval clinched it for the Trojans.

The Skippers host Buffalo in a non-conference matchup on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
