VIDEO: Community Garage Sale Serves Multiple Purposes for Those in Need

Most items not purchased at Thursday's garage sale will be donated to Courage Center and the Animal Humane Society.

It's said that one man's trash is another man's treasure. But the treasures at 's 4th annual Community Garage Sale extend well beyond the reach of a single person.

"There are so many families that need help," said Linda Roslansky, an event organizer.

Roslansky and a group of volunteers — a group that consisted of parents and students — gathered items from people in the community and packed the school's gym with everything from clothes, to toys, to electronics and other various knick-knacks.

The price of each item was entirely up to the customer.

"People just drop in whatever they can, whatever fits their budget as they are leaving," Roslansky said.

Meantime, not only did shoppers get great deals on what they purchased, but the money raised went toward families in need in the Minnetonka School District.

Thursday, JoAnne Robinson brought 25 children from her youth group to the garage sale. She gave each of the students $1 to pick up as many items as they could hold.

"We like to support the cause, knowing that a lot of the proceeds will go back to our program to help the kids get school supplies and be ready for next school year," she said.

School supplies and money for field trips are just a couple ways children in the district will benefit from the garage sale.

The volunteers, meanwhile, say they got satisfaction in knowing that they helped a good cause, raising about $1,500 in the process.

"It just builds the momentum to continue doing it," Roslansky said.
