Tonka Teams Excel in Spring Sports

Highlights from the spring season in track, baseball, lacrosse, and other sports.

The Boys Track Head Coach, Chris Cohen, and the Girls Track Head Coach, Jane-Reimer-Morgan, were each named Section 6AA Coaches of the Year.

Minnetonka athletes are at the top of their game as the spring sports season comes to an end. Boys Track, Girls Track and Boys Golf all won section championships.

Boys Track: The boys track and field team has had a stellar season so far, winning the 2012 Lake Conference Championship Meet, the Section 6AA meet as well as the 2012 State True Team Championship. The team will send 13 participants to the state meet at Hamline University on June 8 and 9.

Girls Track: The girls track and field team won the 2012 Lake Conference Championship and the Section 6AA meet. The team also posted impressive finishes and won the 4x800 relay in the State True Team Championship. The team finished 5th in the True Team meet.

The team will send nine participants to the state meet at Hamline University on June 8 and 9.

Boys Tennis: The Minnetonka Boys Tennis team opened sectional play with match wins over Chanhassen and Shakopee. They lost in the section semi-final on May 22. Joey Richards won the Section 2AA Singles Title. He will compete at the state individual tournament on June 7 and 8.

Jason Gutierrez and Will Lindfors took second place in the Section 2AA Doubles Competition. They qualified for the doubles state tournament on June 7 and 8. 

Baseball: The Skipper Baseball team earned the #2 seed in the Section 2AAA baseball tournament. They will play for the Section 2AAA championship on June 5 vs. Eden Prairie.

Girls Lacrosse: The Minnetonka Girls Lacrosse team finished the regular season with a record of 8-4 and earned the #3 seed in the Section 6 girls tournament.  They lost the Section 6 title game against Eden Prairie.

Boys Lacrosse:  The Minnetonka Boys Lacrosse team finished the regular season with a record of 11-2 and won the 2012 Lake Conference Championship (Co-Champions). The Skippers earned the #1 seed in the Section 6 playoffs and lost to Eden Prairie in the Section 6 title game. 

Boys Golf: The team won the 6AAA title with a team score of 586.  Jacques Wilson was the top individual golfer scoring a 69 on May 29 and a 71 on May 31. The team will play in the state tournament at Bunker Hills on June 12 and 13.  

Girls Golf: The team took third place in the Section 6AAA tournament.  Abby Conzemius and Amy Petersen qualified to represent the Skippers as individuals at the state tournament on June 12 and 13 at Bunker Hills. 

Softball: The girls softball team won the 2012 Lake Conference Championship with a regular season record of 14 - 6. The team lost to Mankato East in the Section 2AAA tournament. 

Adapted Bowling: Kristin Lynch finished in 10th place at the state tournament in the PI division. 

Adapted Softball: The Minnetonka/Wayzata Lakers PI team advanced to the state tournament with a record of 4-4. The team lost to Anoka-Hennepin in the match for third place.
