PHOTOS: Minnetonka Football Falls to Trojans in Homecoming Game

Skippers lose a defensive battle to Wayzata 14-0.

In a tightly contested game, the Minnetonka football team took on the Wayzata Trojans in this year's homecoming game.

Both defenses held the opposing offense in check throughout much of the game. DeAndre Singleton had two interceptions at critical times for the Skippers, but failed to make a return for a touchdown.

The Skippers started to gain momentum late in the first half, as quarterback Nick Rooney stretched out the Wayzata defense with short, accurate passes.

Just as the Skippers began to smell the endzone, Rooney was intercepted by Will Long of Wayzata. Long returned the interception all the way to the endzone with under one minute left in the first half.

During halftime, the homecoming court was introduced, and both the marching band and dance competition team performed for the crowd, estimated to be as large as 8,000.

In the second half, the Skippers struggled to find any offensive momentum to catch up to Wayzata. Wayzata held onto their lead and ran down the clock for their fourth win of the season.

Minnetonka (3-3) will next take on the top-ranked Eagles of Eden Prairie (5-0) at home on Oct. 5.
