Seventh Graders Get Into the Spirit of Giving

Students at Minnetonka Middle School East packed a truck full of 3,614 pounds of food and raised nearly $2,700 in cash for the food shelf.

Seventh grade students at hosted their annual food drive for the ICA Food Shelf. Students helped pack a truck full of 3,614 pounds of food. The students also raised nearly $2,700 in cash.

“We’re supporting people who could be our neighbors and others in the community,” said Matt Haas, a student at the school.

Current needs at the food shelf include bagged rice, peanut butter and canned beans. The ICA Food Shelf is more than half-way to their year-end giving goal of $300,000.

This was the largest school contribution to the food shelf in more than three years.

Cathy Maes, the executive director at ICA Food Shelf was impressed.

“I am absolutely amazed at how these seventh grade students stepped up," she said. "It inspires me and all of our volunteers when we see how young people in our community can come together and make such a big impact.”
