Minnetonka Middle School East 8th grade student Messiah Ba was selected as a finalist in the "Letters about Literature" writing contest, sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress.

Messiah was chosen as a finalist in Minnesota from more than 1,250 applications.

To enter, readers write a personal letter to an author, living or dead, from any genre, explaining how that author's work changed the student's way of thinking about the world or themselves.

National judging takes place on April 25 in the Library of Congress and winners will be announced in early May.
