Minnetonka and Hopkins Schools Closed Again Tuesday

Tuesday's forecast calls for a high of -3 and a wind chill of -40. Afterschool activities at Minnetonka are still planned.

Minnetonka and Hopkins schools will be CLOSED on Tuesday, Jan. 28. 

At Minnetonka, Explorers Club will be open. The Minnetonka High School Final Exam schedule will be postponed to Wednesday. 

  • All elementary, middle and high schools will be closed.
  • Minnetonka ECFE and Preschool will be closed.
  • Minnetonka Aquatics will be closed.
  • All daytime and afternoon classes for Minnetonka Community Education are cancelled.

Because conditions are expected to improve throughout the day, Minnetonka High School will open at 2 p.m. and will resume regularly scheduled after-school activities and Community Education evening classes and activities. Unless otherwise notified, all youth and adult evening classes and practices will be held. 

At Hopkins, there will be no Ready 4 K, Early Childhood Special Education classes or Early Childhood Family Education classes. Kaleidoscope and Stepping Stones will be open. Kids & Co. will be available all day for those who are normally scheduled in KinderConnection, before-school and/or after-school programs. 

Students at Minnetonka Schools had the day off due to a teacher workshop on Monday. Schools around the state, including Hopkins, were closed due to the weather. 

The National Weather Service expected a high near -8 and wind chill values as low as -41, with a west northwest wind 15 to 20 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph on Monday.

Will the districts have to make up days?

The Minnetonka School District is asking the Minnesota Department of Education for input, although the district already has more days of instruction than required.
