Minnetonka Resident to Lead U of M Regent Committee

Regent Linda Cohen was appointed chairwoman of the Regents' Special Study Committee on Academic Health.

The chairman of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents has appointed a Minnetonka resident as chairwoman of the Regents’ Special Study Committee on Academic Health, according to a Thursday release from the University of Minnesota.

Regent Linda Cohen, former board chairwoman, will lead the committee through June 30, 2015, with the goal of helping the regents learn about academic medicine, including related research, while also ensuring adequate board oversight of these areas.

Cohen’s appointment was part of seven committee organizations that were announced. Regent committee make recommendations to the full board, provide oversight, review and advise on board policies, receive reports and information and review issues they are directed to.

Cohen is a licensed psychologist and licensed marriage and family therapist. She’s been a Wayzata School Board member since 2000.

She was also a consultant for TCF Bank who directed a business-education partnership with Minneapolis’ Patrick Henry High School, assistant director/interim director of The Blake School’s Middle School and a senior administrative team member at Blake.

She’s also been on the Advisory Council for the University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, the Minnesota Women Psychologists’ steering committee and the Minneapolis Urban League board.

Cohen has a Master of Arts and Ph.D. degrees in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota. She also has a Master of Arts in the history of science from Harvard and a chemistry degree from Wellesley College.
