Minnetonka High School Named Second Best in State by Newsweek

Minnetonka was placed 190th out of the top 1,000 high schools in the country, finishing only behind Edina in the state.

Less than two weeks after being named the in Minnesota by U.S. News and World Report, was given even higher regards by Newsweek.

MHS was named the second best public high school in the state according to Newsweek's annual rankings, which were released on Monday. Among Minnesota schools, only nearby Edina placed higher. Nationally, Minnetonka was ranked 190th out of 1,000. Edina was ranked 154th.

The rankings were based on six components provided by school administrators: graduation rate (25 percent), college matriculation rate (25 percent), AP/IB/AICE tests taken per student (25 percent), average SAT/ACT scores (10 percent), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10 percent) and AP courses offered  per student (5 percent).

The three other Minnesota schools to round out the top five were St. Louis Park (290th), Lakeville North (294th) and Mahtomedia (302nd).
