Minnetonka Band Teacher Honored as Summer Scholar

Mary Beth Huttlin will participate in a 4-week program in Germany.

Mary Beth Huttlin, a band teacher at and an orchestra teacher at , has been selected as an NEH Summer Scholar from a national applicant pool to attend one of 22 seminars and institutes supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities

The Endowment is a federal agency that, each summer, supports these enrichment opportunities at colleges, universities and cultural institutions so that teachers can study with experts in humanities disciplines.

Huttlin will participate in an Institute entitled "Johann Sebastian Bach: Currents and Cross-Currents in the Baroque Era and in Our Time." The 4-week program will take place in cities in Germany where Bach lived and worked.

Throughout the program, teachers will work with American and German leaders in education and curriculum design to create interdisciplinary curricula to be shared with schools across the United States through the outreach work of the National Endowment of the Humanities.

The approximately 520 NEH Summer Scholars who participate in one of these programs of study will teach almost 65,000 American students the following year.
