MHS Seniors Boast Long List of Achievements

Highlights from the year and graduation information for Minnetonka High School Class of 2012.

Approximately 700 students will graduate from Minnetonka High School on June 7. The class has an impressive list of accomplishments, including an average ACT score of 25.3, state championships in athletics and thousands of hours of community service.

Highlights

  • The Class of 2012 posted an impressive 25.3 ACT composite average. Minnetonka’s top 100 score was 31.9, the top 200 was 30.3 and the top 400 was 27.8.
  • Among the Class of 2012, 105 are National Honor Society members and 12 are Minnetonka honor Society members.
  • Maria Filsinger was named a U.S. Presidential Scholar, one of two Minnesota students so honored. Maria is also the first Minnetonka Student to achieve both National AP Scholar and IB Diploma Candidate—taking full advantage of both highly rigorous programs.
  • Four MHS seniors were awarded National Merit Scholarships: Maria Filsinger, Jeremy Nelson and Alexander Van Dyke and Daniel Wang. The Class of 2012 had 13 National Merit Finalists, 1 National Achievement Semifinalist and 19 National Merit Commended Students.
  • Four MHS seniors earned the honor of National Advanced Placement Scholars: Maria Filsinger, (earned in 2010 after tenth grade), Robert Dryke, Aude Lefranc and Daniel Wang. 
  • The College Board named 22 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars with Distinction, 21 AP Scholars with Honor and 38 AP Scholars from the Class of 2012 for outstanding performance on AP Exams taken in the spring of 2011 after their junior year. More students will earn those honors this summer when their senior year AP exams are scored.
  • This year, 32 students have completed the rigorous IB Diploma Requirements.
  • The MHS Physics Bowl Team with seniors Nicholas Jones, Sam Nickolay, Jackson Baril and Daniel Wang, took 1st place at the four-state Division 1, Region 10 Physics Bowl Competition. Nicholas Jones had the second highest score in Region 10.
  • MHS Supermileage Team won the state championship in the Modified Class at the 24th annual Minnesota Technology Association’s Supermileage competition at Brainerd International Raceway. Their vehicle had a top run of 686mpg. The team was made up seniors Chris Thompson, Ted Vaala and David Shultz.
  • The DECA team sent 99 students—a school record—to the state competition in Minneapolis. David Schneider, Evan Drantch, Nick Reece, James McFarlin and Evan Hurrell qualified for the International DECA Competition in Salt Lake City.

The Minnetonka High School Class of 2012 commencement ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at Grace Church in Eden Prairie.

A mandatory graduation practice will take place at 9 a.m. at Grace Church on June 7.  This typically takes one hour. Students should arrive by 5:45 p.m. on June 7 to get ready for the graduation ceremony.
