Minnetonka's Coach Inniger Resigns

He took Tonka to its only girls state basketball tournament appearance in school history.

After 14 seasons, Minnetonka High School’s Girls Basketball Head Coach Bart Inniger has resigned.

“After much thought, I have decided to retire as Head Girls Basketball Coach at Minnetonka,” Inniger wrote in an email to Minnetonka basketball families Thursday morning. “This is a decision I have spent much time talking with my family about and I realize that I am missing out on many family events.  At this time I am choosing to spend time with my family as my sons continue to grow up.”

Inniger took Minnetonka to its only girls state basketball tournament appearance in school history in 1999. Over the past seven seasons, his teams have gone 116-71, including being only one win away from the state tournament last year. MHS lost to Hopkins in the section finals, and Hopkins went on to win the 2011 state championship.

“Bart Inniger is a valued employee who will continue to teach in the District…We certainly respect his decision,” Minnetonka Schools spokeswoman Janet Swiecichowski said.

Inniger played basketball for North Dakota State University from 1989 to 1992.

After gathering input from staff, parents and team members, the school district hopes to interview candidates to replace Inniger by the end of August.

“I look forward to watching the Girls Basketball program continue to grow and prosper,” he wrote.
