Where Are Minnetonka Home Demolitions Taking Place?

A look at the parts of the city where the most homes are being torn down.

The number of Minnetonka home demolition permits is returning to pre-recession levels, as Patch reported last week. The trend is driven by a resurgent economy and the city’s aging homes. But that doesn’t mean the trend is the same across the city.

This year, there has been a cluster of permits issued for homes near Minnetonka Boulevard and 101. There are also a handful of demolitions taking place along a strip bordering Interstate 394. And the northern part of the city is generally seeing more than the southern part of the city.

Such patterns have always been there. Some of this happens for a reason. In 2008, the city issued 15 demolition permits necessary for a Veit and Co. office project on Wilshire Drive. But it can also simply be the result of which homeowners choose to renovate in any given year.
