VIDEO: Sen. Hann on Government Shutdown, Taxes

Minnetonka Patch and The UpTake are teaming up to bring you news from your Minnetonka legislators—in their own words.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this story led with the headline "Sen. Hann Favors Shutdown Over Tax Increase on Wealthy." After editorial consideration and reader feedback, the headline was changed to more accurately reflect the contents of the video segment.

This installment of 'Patch Politics' features Capitol Report host Julie Bartkey as she interviews Sen. David Hann (R- Eden Prairie/Minnetonka), chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. The two discuss a final budget plan and the impact of a government shutdown on health and human services programs.

Right now, a stalemate over Minnesota's looming $5 billion deficit means the state is headed towards a government shutdown. Because the regular legislative session ended without a budget deal, Governor Mark Dayton (DFL) and Republican leaders now have until July 1 to reach a compromise.
