Selcer Announces Candidacy for State House Seat

A former Hopkins school board member, Yvonne Selcer filed her candidacy for state representative in District 48A, challenging Republican Kirk Stensrud.

Yvonne Selcer filed her candidacy this week for State Representative in District 48A, challenging Republican Kirk Stensrud.

Selcer is a first-time candidate for state office, after completing eight years on the Hopkins School Board as a director, treasurer and chair. During her tenure as chair, Hopkins Public Schools received four state and one national award for excellence in fiscal management and reporting.

Selcer received the Director and President awards from the Minnesota School Board Association. While serving on the Hopkins School Board, Selcer said she learned “the value of visioning and proactive planning,” skills which she hopes to bring to the Minnesota House.

Selcer has also spent a number of years in management for Minnesota businesses, was an elementary school classroom teacher, and taught junior high special education.

She lives in Minnetonka with her husband of 25 years, Chuck, a CPA, and they are the parents of two children.

Selcer's campaign co-chairs are Karen J. Anderson, former mayor of the city of Minnetonka and Lori S. Weissman, JD, longtime Senate District 48A resident and community volunteer.

This is great!!- we need to get back to proper representation in 48A and away from a chamber of commerce-centric view of the world. We also need Minnetonka people in the legislature- right now we are being drowned out by Eden Prairie

Thank you, Yvonne! In you, I know I'll have a representative who will reply to my emails and give a direct answer to a direct question! Now is the time for those in our district to start asking: "just what has Kirk Stensrud done in these 2 sessions of the legislature, other than rubber stamp EVERYTHING put forth by the Republicans?". We need a live person, not a robot, representing our interests at the state capital.
