Rep. Selcer To Host Town Hall on Fraud Prevention

Rep. Yvonne Selcer will be hosting a town hall meeting focusing on fraud prevention on Monday, July 1 at the Glen Lake Activity Center in Minnetonka (14350 Excelsior Blvd) Minnetonka from 2-3:30 p.m.

She will be joined by Gary Johnson of the Better Business Bureau and Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman. All are welcome to attend.

Investors lose millions every year to risky investments and fraudulent scams, and the problem is getting worse as more people manage their own retirement savings. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has partnered with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, part of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, to help combat investment through the BBB Smart Investing program.

As part of the BBB's outreach mission the organization offers consumer education programs to inform consumers about the scams and frauds that are prevalent in today's marketplace. This session, the legislature passed several pieces of legislation to protect consumers and enacted new laws to protect seniors from scams and fraud. Rep. Selcer will provide information about new legislation at the meeting.

"I hope that area seniors and residents are able to attend to hear about fraud prevention and legislation that we passed this session to protect seniors, vulnerable adults and consumers," said Rep. Selcer. "It's crucial that we know how to prevent falling victim to scams."
