Patch Politics: Tickets & Taxes

Minnetonka Patch and The UpTake are teaming up to bring you news from your Minnetonka legislators-- in their own words.

This installment of 'Patch Politics' features Senate Assistant DFL Caucus Leader, Senator Terri Bonoff (DFL-Minnetonka) talking tickets and State Representative John Benson (DFL-Minnetonka) talking taxes.

  • Sen. Bonoff asks: 'Can you transfer a paperless ticket?' As the Senate debates tweaking laws that regulate event ticket reselling, Senator Bonoff asks the question, "Do local sports teams have paperless tickets and can those tickets be transferred?"
  • Rep. Benson finds fault with border tax incentive. The Mayor of Taylor Falls, Minn. is seeking special tax breaks for businesses in his city because the city borders with Wisconsin. This 'border city designation' allows businesses located in or expanding into designated zones, to qualify for property tax exemptions, corporate franchise tax credits and a sales tax exemptions. In this clip, Rep. Benson says the problem with these kinds of incentives is that they can create a system of winners and losers-- with businesses jumping from one incentive to another. He recommends instead addressing the broader tax issue.
