Patch Voters' Guide: Who will be the newest council member in Minnetonka?

Editor's note: This week we feature candidates running for the Minnetonka City Council in the . Four days this week, we will feature two of the eight candidates, according to alphabetical order of their last names.

 The election will fill the vacant City Council Member, At Large Seat B, left vacant when former Council Member Amber Greves resigned the position in December.

Minnetonka Patch: What qualifications do you have that will make you an effective Minnetonka City Council member?

John Knight: I believe my background and experience will serve the residents of Minnetonka well:

  • Minnetonka Planning Commissioner
  • 13 year Minnetonka homeowner
  • Small-business person, financial services manager/VP, attorney
  • Volunteer with Minnetonka Schools and St. Davids Center

Patch: What is the biggest issue for the city of Minnetonka? Why?

Knight: There are three primary issues we need to focus on:

  • Being respectful of our tax dollars
  • Ensuring city services are responsive
  • Preserving our neighborhood character 

Patch: What is current Minnetonka leadership doing well? What could be better?

Knight: Rather than talking about the current leadership, our campaign is more focused on the residents of this city and what I, as a city council member, could do to serve them.

Patch: How will you get input from your constituents?

Knight: Listening to our residents and asking questions will be my approach on the city council. Email, phone and in-person conversations will be key to understanding the concerns of the Minnetonka community.

Patch: Give us a brief background of yourself.

Knight: My proudest accomplishment is my family! I have a wonderful, hard working wife and two beautiful boys– Grant is 8 and attends Groveland Elementary and Evan is 5 at St. Davids Center. As discussed above, I believe my background and experience will the serve the residents of Minnetonka well.
