It's Not Just the Clinic—Residents Resisting Other Rezoning Issues

While the outcry over a potential new Hennepin County Medical Center clinic planned for the corner of Shady Oak Road and Excelsior Boulevard may be the most visible expression of community opposition to redevelopment projects, there are other projects raising hackles around Minnetonka, according to the Star Tribune.

Neighborhood opposition to two projects, the Park Valley Estates and the Woods of Fairview, resulted in both being downsized—lot sizes went up and total number of lots went down in accordance with neighbors' worries about "preserving open space" and the city's rural feel.

The controversies come as the city council plans to take up the issue of whether to change the city's lot and home size regulations as the housing market in Minnetonka changes.
