Hennepin County Sheriff Plans Warrant Sweep

Offenders who surrender to authorities in advance of the sweep will avoid being arrested at their home or workplace.

Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek is urging anyone with an active warrant to surrender to authorities.

The Sheriff’s announcement is in advance of an upcoming intensive warrant sweep which will clear as many warrants as possible.

“We know that people who are wanted on warrants are more likely to commit crimes in the future,” Stanek said. “Clearing warrants is one tool in the effort to improve public safety.”

Stanek has temporarily redirected resources to the Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit during the enforcement effort. Additional deputies will be assigned to the Warrant Unit and local law enforcement agencies will contribute additional officers to the enforcement effort. Warrants will be pursued in communities throughout Hennepin County.

The exact start date of the warrant sweep will not be announced but it will begin within the next few days, the Sheriff’s Office announced Friday. Because of this prior notification, people who are wanted on active warrants have the opportunity to voluntarily turn themselves in to the Sheriff’s Office or their local law enforcement agency. Offenders who surrender to authorities in advance of the sweep will avoid being arrested at their home or workplace.
