Hann Won't Run for Governor, Will Focus on Senate

Minnetonka's state senator was considered a likely candidate in the 2014 elections.

Saying he wanted to focus on leading his party in the state legislature, Minnetonka's Sen. Dave Hann announced on Friday that he would not be challenging Gov. Mark Dayton in next year's elections.

According to MinnPost, Senate Minority Leader Hann said he wanted to concentrate on his role in the state senate, and on laying the groundwork for other Republican gubernatorial candidates.

The news website also noted Hann's wife is being treated for cancer, saying that her illness played a role in Hann's decision.

According to the Star Tribune, four Republicans have already declared they would be running against Dayton next fall.
