Warrant Issued For Suspected Jewelry Thief

A warrant for Nicolas Alexander Sharpo, 28, on a charge of felony theft over $5,000 was issued by Hennepin County Court.

Minnetonka Police believe a man stole jewelry valued at $25,000 while painting at a house in Minnetonka. Unable to locate him, the court has issued a warrant for his arrest.

A warrant for Nicolas Alexander Sharpo, 28, on a charge of felony theft over $5,000 was provided by Hennepin County Court on Oct. 17.

The alleged theft happened back in January. A homeowner in Minnetonka told police that two jewelry boxes had been stolen from her home. She and her husband had hired a painting company to paint their ceilings. While the painting was being done, she was out of town. When she returned, she noticed the two boxes missing from her closet and bathroom. Many jewelry pieces were in the boxes, with a value of over $25,000.

The day after Sharpo was questioned about the missing jewelry, police say he failed to show up for work and no one could reach him by phone. Sharpo's estranged wife showed police a bag of jewelry in their garage, and the jewelry's owner identified it as some of her less expensive jewelry valued at $365, according to court documents.

The Gold Guys in Woodbury confirmed that Sharpo was a customer that sold them numerous pieces of jewelry for more than $1,000, according to police. Based on description, officers were able to match many of the items stolen, but the jewelry was no longer available.
