Tourist Mugged, Beaten Finds Safety in Minnetonka

May 24

7:35 a.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Carlson Parkway for a reported burglary. No more information is available. 

1:28 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to 11140 Bren Road W (Eliot School) for a reported assault. No more information is available. 

2:14 p.m.: Minnetonka Police responded to the 2900 block of Ellsworth Lane in Minnetonka after an animal bite was reported. On the scene, an on-duty employee of the Minnetonka Public Works Department told police that a dog had bitten him on the leg—breaking the skin. After speaking to the dog's owner, police deemed the dog, described as a brown dog with tiger stripes, as potentially dangerous and quarantined him to his home. 

4:47 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to 5900 Green Oak Drive () for a reported DWI. A 44-year-old man from Minneapolis was then arrested for a gross misdemeanor traffic offense. This gentleman has several previous convictions including 5 DWIs, drug possession, 2nd degree assault, and 3 accounts of 5th degree assault.

11:15 p.m.: a 57-year-old man from Minnetonka was arrested at Shady Oak Road and Excelsior Boulevard for 3rd degree DWI, a gross misdemeanor. This individual was charged with a 4th degree DWI in 2007.

May 25

3:57 a.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to 5801 Opus Parkway () for a reported assault. At the hotel, police met a man, 44,  who was in town from New York City. The man said he had been "jumped" while asking directions in Minneapolis. According to the victim, he was on Interstate 694, and on his way to the Minnetonka Marriott when he got lost. He pulled off the highway and into a neighborhood to ask directions. He said he was asking two men for directions when they jumped into his rental car (a Chevy Tahoe) and struck him several times in the head with their fists and possibly with a pipe. The men reportedly stole the victim's wallet and computer bag before fleeing. The man found his was to Minnetonka where he called police. He was taken to Methodist Hospital for treatment of injuries that he sustained in the incident, including a black eye and a contusion on his head. The rental car was also damaged in the incident. 

10:07 a.m.: a man, 52, of Plymouth, was arrested at 394 and Plymouth Road for the traffic offense DAC.IPS, a gross misdemeanor. This is when someone is caught driving after their license has been cancelled because it was determined that their having a license is inimical to public safety. This gentleman has been previously been charged with theft, 5th degree assault, driving under the influence, and driving after cancellation on three accounts.

1:09 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to 10700 Cedar Lake Road (Hopkins Education building) for reported drug activity. No more information is available. 

2:35 p.m.: a 55-year-old woman from Delano was arrested at 12421 Wayzata Boulevard () for larceny shoplifting, a gross misdemeanor.

May 26

4:15 p.m.: a 48-year-old man from Hopkins was arrested at 494 and Hwy 55 for the gross misdemeanor traffic offense of no insurance. This individual has several previous charges of excessive speeding, no proof of insurance, theft by swindle, drug possession, defrauding an inn-keeper, 5th degree assault, theft by trick, issuing worthless checks, and other theft misdemeanors.

7:46 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Carlson Parkway for a reported burglary. On the scene police talked to a resident who said his bike had been stolen from his parking stall. Police have no witnesses, evidence or suspects at this time. The bike was reportedly worth $500. 

May 27

3:21 a.m.: a 39-year-old from Apple Valley was arrested at I-394 and Plymouth Road for 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

9:18 a.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to 10901 Hillside Lane W (LH Tanglen Elementary School) for a reported assault. No more information is available. 

May 28

12:12 a.m.: a 43-year-old was arrested at Minnetonka Boulevard and Williston Road for 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

4:45 p.m.: a 43-year-old woman from Minnetonka was arrested at 12411 Wayzata Boulevard () for larceny gross misdemeanor theft.

10:22 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to the 5400 block of Dickson Road to investigate weapon violence. No more information is available. 

May 29

1:45 a.m.: a 37-year-old male from Chanhassen was arrested at I-394 and I-494 for 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

2:16 a.m.: a 23-year-old male from Mound was arrested at Wayzata Boulevard and CR 101 for 4th degree DWI, a misdemeanor.

May 30

10:14 p.m.: a 43-year-old man from Minnetonka was arrested at Hwy 394 and County Road 73 for 3rd degree DWI, a gross misdemeanor. This gentleman was previously charged with a 4th degree DWI in 2009.

May 31

1:03 a.m.: a 48-year-old male from Golden Valley was arrested at Baker Road and CR 62 for 3rd degree DWI, a gross misdemeanor. This individual was previously charged with a 4th degree DWI in 2004.
