Report: Toddler Left in Car Outside Ridgedale

This is the weekly Minnetonka Police Blotter.

INCIDENT REPORT

On June 29 at 3:51 p.m. Minnetonka police officers responded to Ridgedale Center after two local women called to report a young child who had been left in a running car. On the scene, the witnesses told police they had been waiting for more than 20 minutes for an adult to return to the 3-year-old child.

Within minutes of police arriving, the young girl's mother exited from the mall's west doors and approached officers. She reportedly told police she had gone inside for only a few minutes to get water for her daughter. 

Police report that it was 87 degrees at the time of the incident and although the car's fan and air conditioning were running, it felt hot inside the vehicle.

The 28-year-old mother from Brooklyn Park was cited for leaving a child unattended in a motor vehicle and released.

June 27

1:18 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to a home on the 5600 block of Green Circle Drive for a reported burglary.

8:03 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to a home on the 11800 block of Cedar Lake Road for reported assault.

8:09 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to a home on the 5300 block of Nolan Drive for a reported burglary.

June 28

12:25 a.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to County Road 101 and Hutchins Drive for a reported DWI. A 21-year-old male from Chaska was arrested for 4th degree DWI.

8:06 a.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to Highway 7 and Williston Road for a reported DWI. A 29-year-old male from Minnetonka was arrested for 2nd degree DWI. This man has previously been charged with aiding and abetting theft, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving after suspension, and speeding.

4:11 p.m.: a 38-year-old male was arrested at Interstate 494 and Minnetonka Boulevard for 3rd degree DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and not wearing his seat belt. This man was previously charged with creating a public nuisance, no proof of car insurance, DWI, fleeing a police officer and breaking other traffic regulations.

9:46 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to County Road 101 and Lake Street Extension for reported drug activity. A 23-year-old female from Chanhassen was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

10:08 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to 4713 County Road 101 (Westwind Plaza) for a reported burglary.

June 29

1:02 a.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to the 5400 block of Smetana Drive for a reported neighborhood dispute. A 41-year-old male was arrested from his home on the 5400 block of Smetana Drive for forced burglary and 5th degree assault. This man has previously been charged with 3 DWIs.

1:41 p.m.: a 36-year-old male was arrested from his home on the 12300 block of Marion Lane West for domestic assault.

July 1

2:58 p.m.: a 53-year-old male from Eden Prairie was arrested at Highway 7 and County Road 101 for fraudulent activities of using dishonorable checks, a felony.

10:00 p.m.: a 26-year-old male from Hopkins was arrested at Interstate 394 and Ridgedale Road for 3rd degree DWI, a gross misdemeanor. This individual was previously charged with a 4th degree DWI in 2007.

July 2

5:35 a.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to Minnetonka Boulevard and Sussex Drive for a reported DWI. An 18-year-old female from Edina was arrested for 4th degree DWI, open bottle and underage drinking.

8:30 p.m.: a 42-year-old male from Minneapolis was arrested at Highway 169 and Minnetonka Boulevard for not wearing a seat belt and not having proof of car insurance.

10:15 p.m.: Minnetonka Police were dispatched to the 2900 block of Ellsworth Lane for reported fireworks.

July 4

10:43 a.m.: a 23-year-old male from Eden Prairie was arrested at County Road 62 and Interstate 494 for a gross misdemeanor DWI. This individual has previously been charged with underage drinking, 4th degree DWI, and two accounts of disorderly conduct.
