Minnetonka Skier Dies In Avalanche

Minnetonka native Jamie Pierre died in a self-triggered avalanche Sunday in Little Cottonwood Canyon, UT.

Jamie Pierre, a professional skier and Minnetonka native died in an avalanche in Utah on Sunday.

Pierre, 39, apparently triggered the avalanche while snowboarding in the currently closed Alta Ski Area and continued to Snowbird via Mount Baldy to access the Peruvian Cirque and the Gad Valley, according to ESPN.

Pierre set the world record in 2006 for biggest cliff jump, launching a 255-foot cliff at Grand Targhee, WY.

He was currently living in Montana.
