Police Say Man Broke Into Minnetonka Home and Opened Christmas Presents

The St. Louis Park man was charged with felony burglary after police found his DNA at the scene.

Police believe a 20-year-old man broke in and opened all the Christmas presents under the tree of a Minnetonka home.

Edgar Solorio-Vasquez, of St. Louis Park, has been charged with felony first-degree burglary.

On Dec. 23, 2011, Minnetonka Police responded to a report of a burglary at a Minnetonka home. The homeowner said he heard noise while he was sleeping and went to investigate. He found all of the presents under the Christmas tree unwrapped and four bottles of alcohol taken from a bar, valued at $150.

A police dog found a scent near a door, but the trail went cold. A jacket that did not belong to the homeowner was found in the living room and swabbed for DNA. The results came back with Solorio-Vasquez's DNA on the jacket.

A second sample was taken from the suspect. Police say the profile from the coat at the scene and the sample from Solorio-Vasquez would not be expected to occur among unrelated individuals more than once in the world population.

Police say when Solorio-Vasquez was confronted with the DNA results, he confessed that he burglarized the home, took the alcohol and ran away when he heard the homeowner get up. 

The homeowner said he doesn't know Solorio-Vasquez and has never given him permission to enter his home.
