Nearly 3,000 Lose Power around Minnetonka Tuesday Morning

Power should be restored shortly.

Hundreds of Minnetonka residents are once again without power following thunderstorms Tuesday morning.

Xcel Energy's online outage map showed two clusters of nearly 3,000 customers without power near the Highway 12 and 101 intersection.

One cluster of 1,434 residents in Minnetonka, Orono, Long Lake, Plymouth and Wayzata lost power at 8:19 a.m. Another cluster of 1,327 customers in Minnetonka, Woodland, Wayzata and Plymouth lost power at 8:03 a.m.

Xcel doesn’t expect residents to have to wait for power as long they had to after last month’s storms. Power should be restored for the group of 1,434 residents by 10 a.m., and the group of 1,327 should have power back by 9:27 a.m.

A chance for thunderstorms remains through the rest of the day, according to the National Weather Service. Minnetonka remains under a hazardous weather outlook.

"There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening across the entire outlook area," the outlook stated. "The primary threats will be large hail and damaging winds, though the threat for a tornado can not be ruled out."
