Minnetonka Police Chief Mark Raquet Announces Retirement

Raquet has been chief of police for the city of Minnetonka since January 1, 2007.

Mark Raquet, chief of police for the city of Minnetonka since January 1, 2007, has announced his decision to retire effective May 31, 2014.

“In his time as police chief, Mark has been dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of excellence for his department,” said City Manager Geralyn Barone. “He’s emphasized safety, community connections and greater transparency. We’re very sad to see him leave, and wish him only the best in his retirement.”

Chief Raquet, 55, has been with the Minnetonka Police Department for 29 years, starting as a patrol officer, then being promoted to sergeant, lieutenant and captain before being appointed chief. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University and a master’s degree from Concordia University. Chief Raquet also completed the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., an invitation-only professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement leaders. He and his wife live in Plymouth.

Barone has indicated that options for naming a new police chief are under consideration.
