A man died. No officers were hurt.

A Minnetonka officer was involved in a shooting Wednesday night at the Claremont Apartments on Smetana Road, near the Hopkins border, Police Chief Mark Raquet said.

Officers went to the complex at 8:24 p.m. following a report of a man with a gun, a Minnetonka news release stated. Upon arrival, they encountered a man with a firearm in an underground garage. Shots were fired.

The man with the gun was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were hurt. Raquet said he didn’t immediately know whether the man who died was armed or the circumstances behind the shooting.

Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting.

A first-floor resident who identified herself only as Johanna said she heard one shot followed by three more in quick succession. The shots echoed but sounded like they came from the apartment complex’s underground garage, which police had cordoned off. She said officers would not let residents into the garage.
