UPDATE: Manhunt Follows Overnight Residential Burglary, Suspect Remains at Large

Pursuit involved air and K-9 units, as well as officers from multiple departments.

Deephaven police say a Woodland resident awoke early Tuesday morning to find at least one intruder in their home and chased them off before calling police.

"The suspect ran through the screen door onto the deck and jumped over the deck railing, two stories to the ground," Deephaven Police Chief Cory Johnson said.

The homeowner was able to give police a description of both the suspect and vehicle used to flee the scene.

At approximately 2 a.m. an officer with the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department observed a vehicle matching the description traveling eastbound on Hwy. 7 from Old Market Road. The officer initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle pulled over and the driver immediately fled on foot.

A multi-agency search, which included air and K-9 units, ensued. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 43-year-old Bloomington resident Kevin Lamount Byers, was arrested. Byers is being held without bail on a first-degree burglary charge.

All items reported stolen from the home were recovered.

The search for the driver was called off at approximately 4 a.m. He remains at large.

"The police cepartment is reminding all residents to keep household doors locked and alarms activated," Chief Johnson said. "Remove keys from vehicles in the driveway and garage."

Details are still coming into focus, but an overnight manhunt in Deephaven involving multiple law enforcement agencies concluded early this morning with at least one burglary suspect in custody.

After responding to a burglary on Maple Ridge Road in Deephaven, two suspects driving a Dodge Neon were pulled near .

The driver, described as a black male in his 20s wearing dark clothing, fled—sparking a manhunt that lasted about 90 minutes, according to reports.

A K-9 unit and helicopter were also used in the pursuit and tracked the suspect to a swampy area east of Hwy. 101 and south of Hwy. 7 near Target in Minnetonka.

Its unclear if the second suspect is in custody. The last known area searched was behind the Cub Foods at the intersection of Hwy. 101 and Hwy. 7.

Deephaven police have not issued a statement on last night's activity, but Chief Cory Johnson said he anticipated issuing an update Tuesday afternoon.

The Minnetonka Police Department, Deephaven Police Department, South Lake Minnetonka Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol all participated in the pursuit.
