Man Charged with Violating No-Contact Order at Ridgedale Mall

A Maplewood man has been charged with violating a domestic abuse no-contact order after police say he argued with and confronted the subject of the order at Ridgedale Mall in Minnetonka.

Eddie Dee Loyd, 58, is charged with violating a no-contact order, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 days in jail.

According to the criminal complaint, police were called to Ridgedale Mall just before 4 p.m. on Oct. 21 after someone reported that a man had assaulted his girlfriend, who had a no-contact order against him.

Police found the victim at the mall. She said she had called 911 because Loyd, whom she identified as her boyfriend, had hit her and was following her in violation of a no-contact order issued on Aug. 17.

The victim said she was with Loyd and several family members at Ridgedale. As they walked through the mall, she and Loyd began arguing, and Loyd “got in her face,” according to the complaint. Another family member told police that the altercation stemmed from Loyd asking for the victim’s cell phone.

Surveillance video showed that Loyd and the victim had arrived at the mall together.

Officers tracked down an intoxicated Loyd and arrested him, according to the complaint.

In addition to the no-contact order issued on Aug. 17, Loyd has a lengthy criminal history with felony convictions dating back to 1978. He has been convicted of assault, a drive-by shooting, drug possession, theft and a variety of domestic abuse-related charges, including two in the last seven months. He also has two separate pending domestic assault cases.

Loyd remains in the Hennepin County Jail on a $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge Oct. 24 in Hennepin County District Court.
