Jeffrey Boemer Is Charged with First Degree Burglary

Police say Boemer admitted to burglarizing several homes in Minnetonka and Golden Valley.

A wanted burglary suspect who Minnetonka Police had been searching for since May has now been charged in court with three counts of burglary, one in the first degree and two counts in the second degree.

, 44, was caught the night of Wednesday, June 13.

Boemer, who is homeless but resides in Minneapolis, was found by Minneapolis police officers in a parking lot in the 1800 block of LaSalle Avenue South. Detectives discovered a 2002 Lexus that had been stolen from Minnetonka and observed it in the parking lot for three hours until they saw Boemer allegedly open the trunk.

After a short foot chase in which police say Boemer abandoned a plastic bag of jewelry, he was arrested.

Boemer’s past convictions include a 1986 first degree manslaughter, three 1990 second degree burglaries, two 1997 second degree burglaries and a 2000 second degree burglary. The burglary convictions are from Minnetonka and Golden Valley.

The county attorney will be seeking an upward sentencing guidelines departure and will seek to prove that Boemer is a dangerous repeat offender.

If convicted of first degree burglary, Boemer could be sentenced to up to 20 years and/or a $35,000 fine. The two second degree charges each carry a maximum of 10 years and/or a $20,000 fine.

The criminal complaint

Police say homeowners returned home to the 1500 block of Post Road in Minnetonka at 1 p.m. on May 21, interrupting a burglary in process.

The suspect was identified as Boemer after he fled the scene, leaving behind a backpack that contained a prescription inhaler with his name on it.

Police officers then set up a perimeter and called in a K9 unit. The K9 lead them to the home next door in the 2100 block of Sheridan Hills Road. Officers discovered a smashed window, missing change and that the master bedroom had been rifled through.

At 5 p.m., officers were dispatched to a burglary at the 12000 block of Meadow Lane West in Minnetonka. The homeowner told police he came home to find a ladder under the window of his bedroom. His wallet containing $600 cash was missing and his wife’s 2002 Lexus was gone from the garage.

Police then issued a bulletin to other police departments and the media, offering a $1,000 reward for .

Police say after Boemer’s arrest, he admitted to the burglaries in Minnetonka and also to a couple other burglaries in Golden Valley, one in which he took a large diamond ring.
